Hello,

is it possible to determine the genus? Perhaps Dasysyrphus tricinctus female with wrong colour?
Location: Northwest Germany, away through mixed forest, in bushes, size about 9 mm, only this photo, taken on 15.08.2017.

Greetings, Konrad

Looks like an 'intersex': eyes separated on frons but less than in regular females, no clearly developed genitalia and a melanistic appearance.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
