Hello,

besides one Eristalis pertinax sunbathing on a leaf at 11-12 °C no hoverflies today here (northwest Germany) except this tiny Eupeodes on Ficaria verna at a country lane.

Normally I only expect E. luniger at this time of the year, but this animal reminds me more of Eupeodes latifasciatus (?) because of the connected stripes on its abdomen.

Female Eupeodes latifasciatus is correct, I think: "undusted frons with sharp division between shiny black upper part and yellow lower part" from: Bot, van de Meutter (2023): Hoverflies of Britain and NW-Europe. Date is ok, too.
Greetings, Eric

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
