Strange white setae on back of head; remind me of teethGrin

For some reason I cannot edit the subject.

Dear Tony, it is a Tephritis. Most Tephritinae (almost 40% of the family) have such a white setae. The pic is incredible!

It is a male of Tephritis angustipennis Lw. w/ slightly aberrant wing pattern, the only truly Holarctic species of tephritids; it is associated with Achillea ptarmica and other related species in N. Europe (incl. N Switzerland), Siberia, Canada & N USA.

Many thanks, I didn't expect an ID to species; but certainly pleased to get one.
We have A. ptarmica and A. millefolium in NB.

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
