Hi Jann, I think it's a male Eliozeta helluo.
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

To me, a clear male E. pellucens, based on arista, length of third antennal segment and abdominal colour.

But aren't the antennae distinctly separated?

T&H key:
helluo: Antennae at their base separated by at least half the width of the 1st antennal segment.
pellucens: Antennae hardly separated at their base.; they almost touch.
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

I have no idea, I'd never use that. but for reasons given, to me pellucens.

You can compare pics of validated males and I hope you see my points.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
