Looks like Helophilus trivittatus.
Best regards,
Jürgen

Personally, I would have thought Helophilus pendulus was more likely due to the facial stripe being dark and the hind tibiae being orange on the basal half. In H. trivittatus, the facial stripe should be yellow-orange, and only the basal quarter of the hind tibiae orange.

All the best,
Dylan

Thank you Dylan, I thought the same thing. I am often in trouble when I have to distinguish between pendulus and trivittatus on the base of not too good photos...this why I asked the forum.
Greetings, Boris

No worries. Fortunately, these photos show the necessary identification features, so I think you can confidently confirm your ID with this one.

All the best,
Dylan

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
