These were photographed yesterday at Javalambre mountain, Iberian System, Teruel, NE Spain, about 1600-1800 meters over sea, in open grassland. These were small robbers, Dioctria-sized. tough clearly they're not Dioctria. Some ideas please? Thanks!

Thanks Reinoud. Looks like that there are 6 Iberian species of Andrenosoma but only 2 are common, albibarbe and atrum. By google images, it looks like more Andrenosoma albibarbe than atrum (notice red tinge in abdomen). Can I put a more precise ID?

I am afraid not. Based on the picture we can't see the characters very well Of the Iberian species most have red on the dorsal side of their abdomen.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
