In an unpublished key to Ephydridae by Martin Drake, this one keys to Parydra fossarum or Species D. Species D is described as having last tarsal segment noticably blacker than the others and having sternopleron more heavily dusted than mesopleuron. Which is this specimen, please? Is there any advance in naming species D?

I'd say the tarsal segments gradually darken towards the tip, = fossarum.

There is a contrast between sternopleuron and mesopleuron, but it looks to be due to hairs rather than dusting.

Looks fine for fossarum. [Status of sp.D still unresolved - one of several (=far too many!) current projects.]
