Hi, On October 2nd, a large flock of Ephydrids gathered around a water-filled rut in a wood in southern Brandenburg. I tried hard to take good pictures, but it wasn't easy. Still, I'm hoping for Tony's experience - maybe he can recognize a species. The face appears to be barely hairy, the feet are apparently red, the halters are yellow, and there are a few light spots on the dark wings. Thanks in advance, Sundew Sundew attached the following image: [269.6Kb] Edited by Sundew on 10-11-2023 04:06 |

Parydra littoralis. Note the middle tibia has silvery patches at the base, apex and middle.

Now that you say it, I see these silvery spots! The hind tibiae seem to have them, too. There were so many reflections from the flash that I wasn't sure if the spots were real. Another new Ephydrid for me, that's nice. Thank you so much! |
