Hi all,

Caught, with malaisetrap, a nice series of Diastata ornata. However one specimen differs in habitus from the others as it has darker legs (photo above). Using Chandler 1987 I end up at D. nebulosa. The crossvein r-m clearly beyond r1 and basally with a white patch (photo below). As D. nebulosa is not recorded from the country I'd like to be shur of my ID. Can anyone help?

For comparison, here is D. ornata from the same trap.

No reason to assume you are not right but can you send me one or more specimens. Dissecting male genitalia should clinch it.

Hi Paul,

That's the catch, I've caught only one female...

Hehe,

Very well then, thnx for the conformation of my id Paul!

I will write an article in NFM about this species and D. cervinala. I caught that species also back in 2015 near Pannerden. I'll dislodge the wings of the three species and will photograph them in stable positions. That should make ID'ing the species easier.

You, perchance know how I could contact Peter Chandler for the use of his terminalia drawings?

Greetings!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
