Hello!

I found this nice Eristalinus today on Eupatorium cannabinum at a hedge (Ostwestfalen/Germany), but am not sure, whether it is E. sepulchralis or aeneus. Can somebody give me a hint? Thanks in advance!

Many thanks! I have also read that E. aeneus is much rarer here and mainly living in salty areas.
Best regards,
Jürgen

in northern europe E. aeneus is indeed confined to salty areas, coastal lagoons,... in southern europe E. aeneus is more common, also inland.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol
