Lipoptena sp., not cervi. I have similar specimens of Lipoptena from july 2011 collected in Crimea mountains, Ukraine. Initially I identified them as Lipoptena fortisetosa, but now I'm in doubt. According to key provided in Bei-Bienko (aka Keys to the insects of the european part of the ussr v.5) the main difference between this two is in the setation of the thorax: fortisetosa - ac. 3-4, postalar 2-3, prescutellar 2; cervi - ac. 6-9, postalar 3-4, prescutellar 4-5 Your specimen has ac. 4, postalar 2, prescutellar 3 (if I see it correct), so it looking a bit strange as for me. The other posible species listed by Fauna Europaea is Lipoptena capreoli, L. arianae and L. couturieri but without identification keys I'm feeling hopeless to go further... |

Comparing with my own material, this case is seems to be more difficult to me. Some of my specimens are typical L. fortisetosa (ac. 3-4, postalar 2-3, prescutellar 2), but some has 3 prescutellars from one side and 2 from the other! |
