Only guessing on Muscidae for this one, might be another family? Perhaps Calliphoridae? Size 8-10 mm, photographed outside my apartment 14.09.2010, in Bodø, Northern Norway.

Thank you for correcting family. This is not genus Calliphora is it? Does not look like other Calliphora species (or other Calliphoridae I've photographed and got identified).

Can't be sure, but does not look like Calliphora.

Could be Eurychaeta ??

Maybe? Not an expert on Diptera though... Eurychaeta palpalis is the only species recorded in Norway previously it seems, is it possible to confirm with specimen?

Don't find much info about this genus on the internet. Think this might be interesting to do further research on.

Trying to identify as many insect-species as possible in my area (most Diptera is too difficult for me due to large number of similar species).

As long as you get those botflies !!!

Eurychaeta is my suggestion based on the yellow palpus (if I'm not mistaken), which is otherwise pretty uncommon in 'Sarcophaga-like' flies.

Thanks for the help with this one. Botflies are no problem I think (was Hypoderma tarandi on my previous avatar-photo)

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
