Today (23 sept) I was lucky enought to collect several specimens of O. punctella. As a result of that I have two questions.
1. Rather to Kahis than Jan. In NNW part of Moscow region O. punctella is much more common than O. florum. In NNW of Europe it is the same?
2. Rather to Jan than Kahis. Among flies collected today are two males. I've just realized that it is first males of O. punctella I've ever seen. Do males is rare in O. punctella.

Hi Nikita,

Although the first question was meant for Kahis I have looked for information on this subject:

Hackman (1958) writes:
O. florum: The commonest species of the genus.
O. punctella: Less common than florum but with almost the same distribution in Finland.

As to your second question:
Of all the specimens of O. punctella I have seen (not all that many!) there was only a single male specimen. However from those results I would not say that males are less common than females. It may be true though.

Thank you Jan.
Among 18-20 specmens of O. punctella I've seen (photografed or collected) are only 2 males, both collected yesterday.

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
