Could this especially hairy syrphid be Myathropa florea or is it impossible to say from this limited lateral view? Photographed feeding on ivy flowers 5.9.09 Wiltshire, southwest UK. NickU nick upton attached the following image: [125.91Kb] |

Yes, looks to have the characteristic pale bar on the thoracic dorsum. Tim |

OK, many thanks Tim. This fly only hung around briefly, and I didn't get a top shot, but it stood out as being different with the hairy look and band on the thorax. Nick |
