Dear Forum, This Syrphid (?) sat on the bark of a tree today in my garden. I guess it is a syrpid . It makes me think of Volucella pellucens, but one whose mother had an affair with a Rhingia... Can anyone tell me it's name? Best regards, Niek Niek van Wijk attached the following image: [159.52Kb] |

It is Volucella pellucens, Niek. Protruding mouth edge is a character of Volucella.

Dear Stephane, Thank you for your reply. The only picture I ever made fom Volucella pellucens (end last year when I started this hobby, getting pensioned you know...) was from above and I never realized it had such a big "snout"........ Best regards, Niek |
