Is it possible to determine which Villa this is?

Oslo, Norway August 17, 2007. Possibly laying egg in sandy path?

Regards
John

Villa hottentotta. V. modesta has white hairs on the last abdominal segment and the 'scales' on the sides on the head (behind the eye) are pure white.

There are other species with white/whitish hair and head 'scales' (not real scales like in lepidoptera, but they look like them), But at least here in north Europe specimens with clearly yellow hairs and yellowish scales will be hottentotta.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
