Is it possible to tell something about this little beauty? I found it in Barcelos, Portugal on the last 3rd of April. |

Nice photos but I'd need to see a specimen to identify it - too anonymous for me Also, just a small tip, such a pale background isn't very good for dark insects because the insect under-exposes and details such as the position and orientation of bristles are quite hard to see. As an afterthought - have a look at the recent thread on Cyzenis albicans - it might fit your specimen. Theo says it is common in Europe but over here in the UK we find it quite rarely. Well, this one has 2 pairs of proclinate orbitals, so no Cyzenis albicans. It looks rather Blondeliini, something like Oswaldia or just maybe Meigenia. Can't see enough of it. Theo |

Or, if your camera has spot metering, use this and make sure you meter on the fly not the background.

I had another look and noticed the erect apical scutellar bristles, so this makes female Meigenia likely. Theo |
