I came across this c10mm tachinid among sand dunes at Merthyr Mawr Warren near Bridgend, Glamorgan Wales on 27.4.26 I'm pretty sure it's a Gonia sp. female, likely G. ornata based on the large head, small eyes and orange head capsule. It has orange sides to at least tergites 1 and 2 (largely obscured by the wings) and silvery bands on the abdomen. G. ornata is typically found in. sand dunes in spring and has been recorded (on NBN maps) at Merthyr Mawr and the nearby Kenfig Warren. Any confirmation, correction or comment would be welcome!
