Hi James, that fly looks very interesting and could be a Helina, but I could not use the key due to missing characteristics. To exclude Mydaea: do the original photos show setulae dorsally on the radial node? Maybe it helps to add "Helina?" to the title?

Thanks for your reply. I can't see setulae on the originals but this may not be conclusive as the ISO-rating is 1600 and tiny details may not be visible. As far as Helina is concerned, the cross vein r-m does seem to be noticeably darker and more like Helina. James |

Thanks Eric, that would be very special here. The species was added to the UK list fairly recently and there are only a couple of records so far. I don't think my photos show all the details necessary for a positive ID. James |
