If Eupeodes is correct, we have the following options here in Iceland :

Eupeodes borealis (Dusek & Láska, 1973)
Eupeodes corollae (Fabricius, 1794)
Eupeodes latifasciatus (Macquart, 1829)
Eupeodes lundbecki (Soot-Ryen, 1946)
Eupeodes nigroventris (Fluke, 1933)
Eupeodes punctifer (Frey, 1934)

Reasoning (by Matthew Vosper) that this could be borealis on similar observation : https://www.inatu...s/26296912

... as follows :

"...nigroventris (not black enough)
.... latifasciatus (spots too well separated)
....corollae (spots don't reach margins)
...punctifer has very narrow spots
....male lundbecki have dense black hairs on a very swollen frons and a very wide angle where the eyes meet (120deg)"

this would leave E.borealis?

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
