Hi, Very nice photos. This specimen belongs to Tipula (Vestiplex) scripta, a common species in Finland. Tipula pallidicosta is very similar and the best discriminating characters are present in the male hypopygium (long appendices of 9th sternite in scripta are sinuous but rather straight in pallidicosta). However, pallidicosta is apparently rare in Finland, so far not collected by me despite rather intensive collecting over 10 years. -Jukka Salmela http://sites.google.com/site/cranefliesoffinland/ |
