Hi all,

I have this fine specimen to ID. It was from a pan trap taken off an oilseed rape (Canola) crop in spring 2014. I'm totally confused. Not sure if the big bulbous head if from the water in pan trap, or ethanol it was stored in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Conopidae, Myopinae. The type genus of the subfamily, Myopa, must have been named after the unusual head.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
