I'm having difficulties with identifying this specimen, collected at light in "De Kaaistoep, Tilburg, the Netherlands" at August 30 2015.

I end up at Hilara tenella, but I'm not really convinced. Any ideas?

I'd say you are right. Just check whetehr eyes are broadly separated and acrostichals are in 3-4 rows (Chvála's key mentions 4 regular rows, the description give 3-4 rows). If so, "tenella is your man".

Thanks Paul. Indeed, the 4 regular rows of ac's was not matching. But I also thought the four basitarsis was a bit too swollen. But I couldn't find a better match either. So it's probably indeed Hilara tenella.

Aren't all male Hilara eyes broadly separated? A similar 'pale' species in our region has eyes more narrowly separated. Paul - - - - Paul Beuk on https://diptera.info |
