Apart from the wing pattern, this species is distinguished by the large forward-pointing bristles on the face (which are just visible on the left side of the head in this picture). There have been an increasing number of records recently in Britain (this one was found near Norwich), but its life-history is still unknown.

Hi Tony,

Nice picture! This species was found in the Netherlands in the year 2000 for the first time! Since then this species is recorded nearly every year, though the number of specimens is still low. Two other species of this genus have been reared from Lonicera!

The species was first found in Belgium in 2004 and as far as i know there are 3 sightings now. The last one by myself being 2 males and a female in the garden of my parents today Smile
the flies were sunning on rododendron close to a 15 year old Lonicera.
