I didn't know there are Phaonia species with such strong bristles on the abdomen.

From what I can see of the wing venation there is no bend in vein M. Pfft

true. but there are tachinids with M vein like that.
Well, a lateral shot to subscutellum zone would take off any doubts.
The antennae are very "tachinid". Nothing like we can see in any other muscid.

I have also a few specimens in collection and they are certeinly Muscidae (P. steinii) Smile. Previously this species was belonging to the Dialyta genus (now placed back in Phaonia).
Firstly I was also doubting in my identification. Everything was clear when I have compared my specimen with correctly identified specimen Cool
