V International Symposium on Syrphidae, on 18-22 June 2009, Novi Sad, Serbia
Dear Friends and Colleagues,

This is the second announcement with more details on the V International Symposium on Syrphidae, on 18-22 June 2009 in Novi Sad (Fruska gora-Andrevlje), Serbia.

These information is also posted on the http://syrphidae.com/,
http://www.diptera.info/news.php, http://www.ib.ns.ac.yu/CBBC/en/index.htm.

Symposium
The symposium will be held in Northern Serbia, near Novi Sad (the capital city of Province Vojvodina), in the National Park Fruška gora,
http://www.npfruskagora.co.yu/english/ostalo/o_nama.htm
from the 18th to the 21st of June 2009 (excursion on 22nd of June).
All presentations will be in the Center for Economical and Technological Development of Province Vojvodina, Andrevlje on the mountain Fruška gora, as well as accommodation.

Transport from (and to) the airport in Belgrade to the Center for Economical and Technological Development of Province Vojvodina, Andrevlje on the mountain Fruška gora will be organized (the price is included in registration fee). We need your exact arrival and departure time.

People who will come by train, bus or car will get information how to rich Novi Sad and Fruska gora after they send us the registration form.

Registration
We would like to ask everybody to fill in the registration form (http://www.ib.ns.ac.yu/CBBC/en/index.htm) and return it before March 1st. The Registration Form can also be downloaded HERE.

Registration fee
The registration fee for the symposium is 70,- Euro. It can be paid from May 1st on the bank number, or at symposium in cash. This price includes registration and transport from and to the airport.

Participation of the fieldtrip on Monday 22nd will cost an extra money (we still do not know the exact sum, it depends on number of people interested in).

If the organizing committee succeeds in raising funds for the symposium, part of it can be used for financial compensation of the trip and accommodation for some participants.

Accommodation
Accommodation is in the Center for Economical and Technological Development of Province Vojvodina, Andrevlje on the mountain Fruška gora. There are: 3 apartment rooms, 3 rooms with French bed, 11 single rooms, 10 double rooms and 4 triple rooms.
It would be nice that all participants have accommodation at the same place, therefore the best is to share a room as much as possible.

ACCOMMODATION PRICES (full board): per person, from cca 45, - Euro for double room to cca 50, - Euro for single room. There is no possibility to pay in advance.
The Serbian currency is the Dinar (din or RSD), so we suggest you to convert money (the best is to bring Euros, or US Dollars, as these two currencies are the easiest to exchange) in exchange office at the airport in Belgrade, or you can also pay accommodation by credit card.

Presentation
Anyone who wants to give a oral or poster presentation is kindly requested to give the provisional title before March 1st. For oral presentations in PowerPoint we would like to receive a copy of the presentation before June 10th. If it is not more than 5 Mb it can be sent by e-mail (syrphidae09@yahoo.com), otherwise we would like to receive a Cd (address given below).

Abstracts
Abstracts of talks and posters are to be submitted before April 1st. All abstracts should contain the following information:
Title; authors, including the addresses and e-mails of authors; a brief summary of the contents of the talk or poster. Abstracts should not exceed 300 words.

Excursion
On Monday June 22nd we will organize a field excursion, probably to the Deliblato Sands Special Natural Reserve. The Deliblato Sands is a geo-morphological formation of eolian origin, of exceptional specific beauty and multiple scientific importance. It is of diluvial origin. It is an isolated complex of sand masses with a distinctly undulating dune relief on an area of over 380 sq. kilometers, of elongated ellipsoid shape, surrounded by the expanses of the cultured steppe of the Pannonian plain. About 16,000 ha is under forest - mainly cultivated pure stands of Scotch and black pine, black locust, poplar, etc., and somewhat less under mixed stands of linden, English and pubescent oak, poplar, flowering ash, and other species. In addition to the anthropogenic forests, in the Deliblato Sands there are smaller preserved remains of one time autochthonous forests of English oak with linden and Lily-of-the-valley (Convalaria majalis).

We still do not know the costs for the excursion, but soon we shall inform you.
