Wolfgang Schacht (1939-2011)
Only today I read in a related forum that Wolfgang Schacht (retired from the Diptera Section of the Zoologische Staatssammlung M√ľnchen) dies 10 April this year. He was very active and, amongst others, responsible for cataloging the Diptera of Bavaria. A full list of publications can be found here. Another sad loss for dipterology.

Paul - thanks for posting this sad news about Wolfgang Schacht. In 2003/4 I had the priveledge of working with him on very interesting material which he had obtained from Taiwan. It resulted in the description of several new species including one which I named after him - Silba schachti (Lonchaeidae). As you say another sad loss.

He was really an incredible collector and custodian, entirely dedicated to his flies. Since he retired, he stayed working as a garden cleaner to stay closer to his Diptera collection.

I also dedicated one species to him, Oedaspis schachti Korneyev, 2001 (Tephritidae), which he collected on Taiwan.

Rest in Peace.
