Northern Germany, Schleswig-Holstein, Bellin (east of Kiel), right by the lake Selenter See, at the wall of a tunnel for pedestrians beneath a street, 24th of May 2020, (Photo: kuv - only this one). Is my idea - after searching in the Diptera Gallery - ok? Please help to get the ID.

Alas, no.
First of all, lepidus (currently: longipes) is a very late autumn species. Secondly, you can see the spines halfway the front tibia, hence Dilophus rather than Bibio. The apperent absence of an outplaced spine and the date strongly suggest B. femoratus.

Thank you very much Theo for correcting my idea. It's good to hear some informations about the flies. But sorry I think you mean not B. femoratus but which one ...?

Hi Theo,
reading some threads of Bibionidae in Diptera.info-Forum I think you mean Dilophus femoratus. Additional I read that a safe ID needs picture of genitalia. So I'll write: Dilophus cf. femoratus. Thanks once more

Yes, I did.
And study of genitalia is necessary, but not around Kiel.
Locality, date and picture strongly suggest femoratus, even if I have not seen its genitalia Smile

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
