Hi all: This fly was collected on March 31st, 2019 in Shanghai, China. Is it a Calliphora vomitoria? Thanks in advance! kevin_cheng attached the following image: [246.34Kb] Edited by kevin_cheng on 05-02-2020 13:44 |

I am uncertain exactly which species of Calliphora you have in China, but this one looks more like Calliphora vicina (the hair on the jowls is black, and the anterior spiracle is orange).

Thank you Tony! C. vicina and C. vomitoria are listed as the two commonest species in the genus for Shanghai, so I think I will stick with C. vicina! Kevin |

Hold tour horses ! The vertex is too broad for male vicina and the calypter is not darkened, so there is no way this is vicina (or vomitoria). It is very likely one of those eastern palaearctic species. I need to check the literature. Theo |

Thank you Zeegers for pointing it out! I'll also research about this genus in our region Meanwhile I'll hold back any species-level ID Kevin |
