Hi all !

This is my first query here ; found this nice male Ibisia sp. in the Paillon River, in Nice, France.

Was wondering if it was possible to discriminate marginita from vaillanti here ? I read Thomas' 1982 paper on I. vaillanti, but must confess I only poorly understood this "wings darker than in marginata, as, from the picture I found, I see no differences between both.

What do you think ?

And, by the way, tried to upload the photo on the gallery, but couldn't retrieve it. If someone could help me here...

Thanks !

You should attach images in the original thread, not using the gallery. Perhaps you tried at first, but the attachment had the jpeg extension rather than the jpg extension. I now enabled the jpeg extension, too, so I could attach the image using the one you submitted for the gallery.

I checked Thomas' description and he mentions that I vaillanti is more dark brownish than black and the wing markings are darker than in marginata. This would lead me to believe that this is marginata but without the actual specimen I do get a bit too far out of my comfort zone.

OK, thanks ! That's already a really good start.

I missed this one, and got back there to see if I could catch another one, but instead found Limnophora obsignata.

I'll check under the leaves, and the bridges, to see if I can find more. Do you think you could progress with a proper specimen ? Do you wish me to send you one if I ever find another one ?
