Hi Helge,

It is a species of Ulidiidae, Cephalia rufipes. A female by the looks of it. Is she ovipositing on that wood?

Kind regards,

Ectemnius

Great.
May I please ask for the locality. I am mapping, and this is quite a local species.

Here is one from the Netherlands:

Apologies for the hopeless picture.
In 2017 I saw another one, but didn't manage to get a photo at all.

@Ben,

Wauw! A Cephalia from the Netherlands. As far as I know there is only a single captured specimen from more then thirty years ago. Very nice find!
As admin on waarneming.nl may I ask if you submit your photo there aswell? It's the only species not found in the family Ulidiidae over there...

Kind regards,

Ectemnius

Thank you so much! Great! This is one of the few species I never collected, and am curious if it reaches Western Ukraine

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
