Hello, This fly overwinters in great numbers in our summerhouse in south of Sweden. I assume it is a Pollenia, maybe even P. rudis? Is it possible to ID from these pictures? I still have the fly collected so I can check further details. Best regards, Thomas

Pollenia is OK. Try the key https://quelestce...132016.pdf and have a look at Stephen Falk's site https://www.flick...686275806/ that might be helpful.

Thanks for the link, fantastic key! It indeed looks like P. rudis.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
