Hello all, Whilst looking for beetles I came across quite few fungus gnats in rotting fruiting bodies of giant polypore (Meripilus giganteus). I think it's a male Mycetophila but I daren't be so certain of anything at species level. Mycetophila luctuosa looks very similar and has been reared from the same fungus in a Czech study and the species does occur in the UK but I have no identification keys for this family so I am a bit stuck. Is there anyone who can tell me more? My apologies for the random order the photos seem to have been ordered in. |

Ah, that one indeed looks very similar. Will check the hypopygium when I'm back! |

I don't know if this is of any help. Is there a specific angle I need to photograph it from? |
