Hello,
On 22 October 2018 on ivy in the south of France.
I'm thinking about Helophilus, but I'm not sure.
About 12 - 13 mm.
Thank you for your help with this identification.

It should be Helophilus pendulus. Unfortunately, we do not see the antennae that should be black in Helophilus and yellow in the similar Parhelophilus. I'm not familiar with the latter genus, but I think the abdomen pattern is conclusive in our case and points to H. pendulus.
Regards, Sundew

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
