The specimen was found hovering/ circling a large rotten tree, then getting closer to the trunk and landing directly at a hole in the tree.
18.10.2025 - Nepal, 1.5km NE of Swanta village (~5km N of Ghorepani), Alt. 2450m, exposure NE, in dense suptropical forest.
I am not farmiliar with syrphids - but I would be interested, what this could be, as I really could not find anything similar.
Thank you!

The wing venation and habitus points to Milesia sp.

Proboscis look like Bomblyidae or Nemestrinidae - but the antennae/wings do not match?
Or do you think of another family?

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
