Hello everybody, I need your help to identiy this fly caught among the dunes of the south coast of French Brittany. Body lateral view : Body dorsal view Dark plot on tergite 3 and 4 Sternopleurals setae 2:2 head lateral veiw and arista Prealar Tibia 1 Genitalia dorsal view Genitalia dorsal view 2 Genitalia lateral view 7-8mm, caught on September 05, 2018 in Palud Gourinet, 29710 Pouldreuzic (France) With Seguy and and d'Assis Fonseca I find Helina parcepilosa .... Looks like Helina Can you put on a photo of tibia 3 to show if a pd seta is present? also check if there are any setae on the radial nodes dorsal and ventral sides of the wing? A frontal view of the face is also useful? I'll like to see the frontal vitta and width between the eyes These are difficult to ID by photo so the more information the better Thx Dr Elisabeth A. the genitalia matches Helina parcepilosa quite well. However, i support oceanlis2000 comments: "These are difficult to ID by photo so the more information the better" genitalia can be very difficult to match but especially with Muscidae. I find it best to match a specimen with keys and genitalia. incidentally, this specimen also keys to Helina parcepilosa, thus i cannot see a reason to disagree with you.
