Hello,

on first look I thought this was Eriothrix rufomaculata, but on closer inspection it seems not. Perhaps Thelaira sp.?
Ca. 8 mm, on Eupatorium cannabinum in our courtyard this afternoon (northwest Germany).

No idae what made you doubt, Juergen, but it is a rather typical Eriothrix rufomaculata male.

mostly the white markings. I did not find them on my other pics of the species. Or are they gender specific?

but it is a rather typical Eriothrix rufomaculata male.

Thanks for putting that right.

I recently found a male Thelaira solivaga. Thelaira doesn't have hairy eyes, r1 has bristles, radial node and part of r45 has bristlets, the costal spine is missing.

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
