Any suggestions regarding genus?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, Mallophora cf. nigritarsis, male. An alternate shape for Mallophora: more elongate, less robust, different face. C.H. Curran (in 1940's) referred to these slender Mallophora spp. as "Type II" -- Type I being the typical, more robust form. Modern authors have not followed suit on this concept but perhaps should reconsider. Type II Mallophora spp. all seem to sit on tops of large leaves along forest trails (like this guy); Type I Mallophora spp. all seem to perch on bare branch tips...

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
