Hi,
This monster (probably Tabanidae) attacked me during my work in the field in French Guiana so I had to react......
Normaly I am attacked during the dry season by another species,
But now we are in rain season and this species was waiting for me.
Does somebody believe that we can find the genus and may be the specific name of this neotropical ?

Length of body is 14 mm.

Who thinks or confirms that this one could be Tabanus Antarcticus Linné ?

See this reference containing photos : https://zookeys.p...cle/13197/

It is in the antarticus group, which has several species. The checklist you mention is interesting, but preliminary.
So ask the author, Krolow.

Hi,

I asked the brazilian author TK Krolow, and he asked to the co-author LA Henriques (Manaus) who says it is Tabanus fumomarginatus Hine.

Could this match your informations ?

Yes.

And Krolow and Henriques know what they are doing in the Neotropics....

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
