This syrphid (I suppose syrphid) was yesterday at Pe?aflor, Aragon, Spain, in steppe-land yesiferous soil, in flowers of Dittrichia viscosa. About 200 meters high, continental-mediterranean climate. The fly sizes as a Lucilia, about 8-9 mm long. Very remarkable the big head and the sound of the wings, that resembles a small bee such as Amegilla. It looks for a name. Thanks |

Nice!! A species of Merodon (Syrphidae), but impossible to tell the species from a picture. It seems that 50 % of the Iberian species of Merodon are endemic, so very hard to tell which one it is! Greetings Edited by Gerard Pennards on 11-09-2007 23:00 Greetings, Gerard Pennards |
