Hi,

Here is Asilidae I met last year in North Sardinia. I'm bothered because I identified it as a Tolmerus corsicus.
But it is really different from the one I just posted here: https://diptera.i...d_id=83330
So do you think I was wrong in my identification?

Aaaaghhhhh, the whole group of Machimus/Tolmerus etc. of species can give a headache. I think most dipterists gave up on them a long time ago. This specimen seems to have an elongated eighth sternite which should exclude corsicus. But admittedly I am not 100% sure about my ID in your other post. Pro are: Corsica, no projection on eighth sternite, rest fits description. Need to compare it with type material I am afraid.
Greetings,

Reinoud

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
