Hello everybody, I'm fairly positive that this is Sarcophaga sp. This is perhaps wishfull thinking but... is there any chance of a full ID? Best regards, Iolaire |

Thanks Jorge. I take it that it isn't possible to give a genus or species name? Best regards, Iolaire |

I don?t dare to say which genus for this fly! usually when we saw a Sarcophagidae (not Miltogramminae) we look at the pic in this way: or... lol |

We can give you a positive ID - if you collect the specimen, and it's not one of the difficult females! There are a few species that are distinctive enough we can be fairly sure of their identity from a photo, but it needs a good image that shows the characters well. Hi Tony, Thanks for your reply. Collecting the specimen? I've just started photographing insects a little more serious now and collecting them hasn't really come to mind. Yet. I guess it just did! I'll try to find (and catch, of course) another one. The picture was taken a couple of weeks ago though. Not sure if I'll find the same species just now. Best regards, Iolaire |
