Hello,

I found this big one (22 mm) in my garden. Is it a female of Tabanus sudeticus ?
The first four pictures are taken with flash. The fifth picture is taken without flash to show the color of the eyes.
Spa, Belgium, 22-06-2017.

Thanks
Christine

These are often mistaken for bovinus, due to the reddish tergites and rather distinct ventral vitta: abb. Perplexus Verrall. Antenna and eye colour are distinctive, though.

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
