My books say this is a Lucilia. But the colour is more like Cynomya. Who can help?
The fly on the picture measures 10-11 mm., and was caught on 15.VII.2005.

The behavour was different from that of the Lucilia I know. Last june and july about 2-5 flies were present between the hundreds of Calliphora's around our house on the Dutch Waddensea Island of Griend. There was also some interaction, the flies on the picture jumping on Calliphora every now and then.

Hmm, Lucilia are more clearly green. Maybe Bellardia? Still, I'd rather leave it to someone with more knowledge. Wink

Indeed, I also "felt" it could not be Lucilia. Your suggestion of Bellardia made me take a closer look at the possibilities. Until now I think it is Chrysomyinae. Hope someone can confirm this?

Just in case somebody's interested: the fly was recently identified bij Hans Huijbregts. It is a male Protophormia terraenovae.

P.S. Paul, you can put the picture in the gallery if you like.

Thanks

So Chrysomyinae after all.

All's well that ends well
