Only one photo of this female. I think it is some sort of Eristalis sp. Am I correct?

Location: Midwest Sweden (Dalsland)

It cannot be E.tenax. I think it E.interrupta or E.lineata(=E.horticola)

Thank you both. I don't know much about Syrphidae so I'm a little confused. Stephane is usually right Smile Why not E. tenax, Vladimir?

I can be wrong for this one, and I was probably to fast, because the white hind margin of tergites are rather unusual for tenax. All the characters are not well visible on this picture (i.e. stigma, face) but it could well be a dark female of E. interrupta as Vladimir said.

Greetings.
Stephane.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
