Meligramma triangulifera indeed looks a bit like Meliscaeva auricollis, the pic on the german website seems to me like a triangulifera too but let's wait for Gerard...

these are some pics of Meliscaeva auricollis i took in 2004, you can see the spots on 2nd segment aren't that triangular as it is with M. triangulifera.

Hello Vladimir,
Yep, that picture is not Meliscaeva auricollis, that is also a Meligramma triangulifera female! On the site there are other pictures (next to this one) which show the real Meliscaeva auricollis, also the female! You can compare the pictures with each other, look at the form and color of the spots and the head! So this picture is the only one from all the Meliscaeva auricollis pictures on this site which is wrongly identified!
Well observed!
Greetings,

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
