Strange Phenomenon, Hoverfly ---> fungal infection

Found a lot off these hovers (I think Melanostoma scalare), hanging on grass-flowers september 13th early in the morning. On closer inspection, most seem dead with ruptured abdomens.
Can someone shed a light on this phenomenon ?

Looks like the fungal infection by Entomophthora muscae.
