Hi, This is a rather small fly from Thuringia (not far from Zella-Mehlis), seen on a house wall some days ago. I think of Limoniidae, e.g. Erioptera, but am rather uncertain... Help is greatly appreciated! Many thanks, Sundew Sundew attached the following image: [185.05Kb] |

Limoniidae. The hairs appear to be restricted to veins. My common species of Erioptera has similar hairs, but I don't know if your fly is an Erioptera. |

Searching the forum, I found that there are several Limoniid genera with hairy wings. How tricky! The wing of Erioptera shows several crossveins that I cannot see here. Perhaps Pjotr Oosterbroek could help... |

Hi Sundew The wing venation is like Molophilus sp. But I hink that species level identification needs microscope. BR Esko Edited by evi on 07-10-2016 14:27 |

Dear Esko, this is a very valuable information! The other characters that Johanna mentioned in http://www.dipter...d_id=10930 speak for Molophilus, too. As there are 35 species in Germany and only a few can be excluded because of colour, "Molophilus spec." is the closest ID that we can achieve. Thank you! |
