But it looks odd, doesn't it ?
Basicosta is black, it is clearly not vomitoria.
Calypter is dark.
So should be something like C. loewi ?

Personally, I'd prefer Calliphora uralensis (no dark stripe between prac, abdomen without shifting markings, face seems orange etc.).

I first wrote "sp." because I can't make a certified ID. So Calliphora sp. is the safer, and Calliphora cf. uralensis is a bit bolder.

with ' something like loewi' I included uralensis as well.
The apparent lack of markings of abdomen is conspicuous, though it is very tricky to establish this feature just from one angle.
Still, I wanted the record not to go down as simply ' spec.' , it is an interesting record: safe to say it is either uralensis or loewi.
I will check my collection, I should have both.

So, I checked my collection, and I have to totally agree with Stephane

I'd favour uralensis based on
* lack of white dusting on abdomen
* calypter infuscated till margin, at least so it seems
* lack of central dark vitta between prea ACR.

However
* one depends on angle of view
* two is difficult to see
* three can only be judged properly when seen from behind.

the head shape seems to be in between loewi and uralensis.

So, I'd favour uralensis, but it is by no means sure, at least to me.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
