I found these flies near Faliraki, Rhodes, between the dates 22/06 and 26/06 of 2016. I think they are Exoprosopa dispar, showing the unique discal cell with a strongly kinked m-m vein. Can someone confirm (or correct) this ID? Thanks for any help in advance! Regards, Henrik Males: piros attached the following image: [182.88Kb] Edited by piros on 10-08-2016 20:35 |

For comparison, I upload a picture of a fly, which I think is an Exoprosoma minos female .

Hi, Henrik! I think you must be right! I see this species is much closer to Heteralonia rivularis (Exoprosopa rivularis for other authors) than E. minos, in shape, venation (including the strongly kinked m-m vein) and silvery frons of the male. And this explains why dispar and rivularis are placed in the same dichotomy in the keys. It is difficult to understand why so many ID mistakes have been made through the years. Clearly dispar and minos have very little in common. I think the mystery has been solved! Congratulations!! Edited by Piluca_Alvarez on 10-08-2016 22:09 |

Many thanks Piluca! Do you thinks some of these pics would be good enough for the gallery? (Just to help others avoid the confusion...) Greetings, Henrik Edited by piros on 14-08-2016 22:47 |

Make sure you are logged in. Then go to Gallery Links (on the left of the main page) on click on '+' if you cannot see the different options it contains. It should appear then |
